The Blogger's True Browser

by Nick Morgan

Mozilla, Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox. That's the answer to Brad Delong's and Henry Farrell's [UPDATE: and Kevin Drum's] concerns about Internet Explorer's market dominance and consequent failure to improve at rates one would expect of a more competitive browser market.

Mozilla's Firefox has its problems (sometimes things are displayed funny, has some other funky bugs), but on the whole, I find it absolutely superior. Here's why:

To download, go here and click "Download Now" in the upper left corner. Totallly free of charge. (No, I do not work for them.)

I am trying very hard to convert. It is hard to get used to the tabbed windows. I am trying though. Because IE is noticeably slower and occasionally crashes. But I am a Luddite.

Nick, you mean "customization," not "Cutomization."

If you can show me where to stop it from taking over my .jpgs and .gifs, because quite frankly I'm perfectly content with Photoshop opening those, then I will agree with you. Otherwise I'll stick to Mozilla 1.6, which is also a decent browser. Much, much better than IE.

in xp: right click on any jpeg or gif file, go to "open with", then "choose program", then select photoshop from the list or browse for it in your hard drive, click the box at the bottom that says "always open with this program" and voila!

The built-in pop-up blocker, speed, and tabbed browsing are the greatest combo since bread, peanut butter, and jelly. Stick with it.

what about my mac! Safari is good but yet running 100% on all sites...

Bread and peanut butter, that's great. But jelly with it, that's gross...It may even be toxic!!!

I like Mozilla, and I'm playing with it, but I'm a bit befuddled by the 'speed increase' people are claiming. I've timed it on a couple of sites, and IE is generally comparable. Can someone give me a page that should load faster in my Mozilla than IE?

How about an all around statement claiming that right now all the newer browsers are much better than IE. Mozilla being the favored of course, but I'm biased. ;-)
